Air Purification

Why You Need A Home Air Filter

Newspaper headlines often warn readers about the dangers of rising air pollution. But the air inside your home could be two to 10 times more polluted than outdoor air.

Why? Most modern homes and offices are built to be airtight, which can trap dangerous pollutants such as chemicals, bacteria and mold indoors. Considering that most people spend 90 percent of their time inside, it's no wonder that the Environmental Protection Agency named indoor air pollution the United States' top environmental health problem.

Three Kinds Of Air Pollutants

The three main categories of indoor air pollutants are:

  1. Particulates. Particulates infiltrate the lungs and cause eye, nose and throat irritation. On average, every cubic foot of untreated indoor air contains 20 million particles. Over 99 percent of these particles are invisible to the naked eye.
  2. Volatile organic compounds. These chemicals are emitted by common household products such as paint, lacquer, paint stripper, varnish, cleaning supplies, air fresheners, pesticides, building materials and furniture. When inhaled, VOCs can cause headaches, nose and throat discomfort, nausea and damage to the liver and kidneys.
  3. Microbes. These include bacteria, protozoa, mold and fungi. Most of these contaminants rely on a humid environment for survival. When inhaled, microbes can trigger allergic reactions and other health problems.

Free In-Home Indoor Air Pollution Test

Does the air in your home harbor mold and bacteria? Find out with Tree of Life Health Ministries' free in-home air pollution test.

We'll provide a Petri dish and liquid at no charge. Take it home, open the dish and pour in the liquid solution. Then, place the dish in your bedroom or living room and leave it open for 12 hours. After 12 hours have passed, close the Petri dish and tape it shut. Then, place it in a warm, dark location for five days.

Once five days have passed, open the dish. Mold spores will appear white, green or black. Yeast will appear pink, shiny and smooth. Red colonies could indicate bacterial growth.

After you've completed the indoor air pollution test, bring the Petri dish to Tree of Life Health Ministries for a free consultation. We'll help you analyze the results and suggest ways to improve your indoor air quality.

Choosing A Home Air Filter

A home air filter can remove indoor air pollutants and improve the health of you and your family. But with so many home air filters on the market, how do you know which one to choose?

At Tree of Life Health Ministries, we performed months of research to find the best in-home air filtration system for our customers: Air Oasis Air Purification.

Traditional air purifiers catch particulates in a filter, but do little or nothing to filter volatile organic compounds and other dangerous pollutants. Air Oasis uses a process called photo catalytic oxidation to destroy particulates and neutralize VOCs, without the potential dangers of using ozone or negative ions. Best of all, Air Oasis Air Purifiers have no filters to change and require virtually no maintenance.

If you have a larger home, it may be best to put a Whole House Unit in the living area and room units in each bedroom. You can also install in-duct units. (Call our office for information and pricing.)
