Nutrition Consultations

Tailoring a Personalized, Healthy Diet that Works for You

You are what you eat. It’s that simple. What you eat has the potential to affect your health almost more than anything else. Choose wisely and the food you eat becomes the fuel for keeping you healthy and vital. Choose poorly and you’ll miss the opportunity to provide your cells with the nutrients they need to fight off infection, inflammation and more.

What you absorb through proper digestion also has the potential to impact your health. Unhealthy digestion = unhealthy body. More than 2,000 years ago, Hippocrates stated, “All disease begins in the gut.” Your gut health can impact your immune system, inflammation, your brain function among many other bodily systems. You also can support balancing your hormones, including sex hormones, thyroid and adrenal, through diet and nutrition.

There’s no one-size-fits-all dietary plan. You may have tried a variety of diets, supplements and potentially even cleanses. And the many diets today can be confusing – gluten-free, Paleo, AIP, Atkins, Vegetarian, South Beach, Raw Food, Mediterranean, and so on. The reality is any of these diets can be hard to maintain. And they may not even work with your individual biochemistry/genetic make-up. In fact, over time our bodies change and thus our diet needs to change too. For example, some diets may not be the best if you have histamine issues, while other diets that incorporate lots of coconut products may cause reactionary issues. Our goal is to help you foster a positive view of and relationship with food.

Nutrition Consultations

Tree of Life offers nutrition consultations for all ages. During your initial consult, we will:

  1. Review your entire health history and discuss diet, lifestyle and desired goals. This would also include a review of any supplements you may already be taking so we can create the best overall regimen for your specific health concerns.
  2. Assess your current health through functional tests such as blood pressure, pH, and urine analysis.
  3. Recommend testing as deemed appropriate to help you meet your goals.
  4. Educate you on how your body functions and help you get to the root cause of health complaints.
  5. Tailor a personalized nutrition program for your specific needs and personal genetic make-up.

If you have done the 23andMe® DNA test, we will review those results as well. Reviewing your genetics can really help when there are food sensitivities or allergies, because we’ll gain insight as to how you handle certain foods, such as those that can elevate histamine levels.

Based on your unique, personal needs we may recommend any of the following for you:

Motivated to make a change? Not sure where to start? Overwhelmed by the idea of overhauling something as large as your family’s diet? A Tree of Life nutrition consultation can meet you where you are today and help find balance so that food works with you—not against you—to help you and your family have a healthier future.

For a holistic approach to wellness, we also recommend pairing nutrition counseling with other modalities such as detoxification, reflexology, personal training and structural therapy. For woman who are trying to conceive or are already pregnant, we offer tailored Reproductive & Prenatal Wellness Consultations.

Nutrition Consultation vs. Naturopathic Consultation: What’s the Difference?

The main difference from a nutrition consultation and a naturopathic consultation at Tree of Life is that nutrition consultations focus on functional foods versus supplementation

We employ a functional foods approach to support any deficiencies you may have, giving your body what it needs through real, food-based nutrients. This also can help mitigate the number of supplements that may be recommended to support your nutritional needs, because you simply cannot supplement your way out of a bad diet.

Functional foods may change over time for each person as you heal or support nutritional imbalances. When we give the body a chance to heal, we find that we can reintroduce foods that once were working against us.
